Meet Our Board Candidates

The following Board of Trustee candidates are up for a vote at our 2017 Annual Membership Meeting, held on Sunday May 21st at Unity of Nashville starting at 11:20 AM.

As a member, it is important that you attend this once a year business meeting. It is your opportunity to cast your vote for Trustees, get information on our finances, and have a time to ask questions of Rev. John and/or the Board of Trustees.

Sarah Joy Cook, MBA, RDN, LDN

Sarah Joy and her husband, Randy, have been attending services and classes  at Unity of Nashville for the past 2 years. Sarah Joy’s beliefs, thoughts and relationships have totally shifted the more she absorbs new thought, and she wants to serve the church and our members as a way of saying thank you.

Sarah Joy stepped out of Corporate America 14 months ago. Since then she has started an Airbnb business (Private Sanctuary on Shenandoah Creek), begun selling on ebay, and most recently spent a month in India attending yoga teacher training.

Sarah Joy’s previous career experiences include senior leadership roles in client relationship management at MDLIVE, Healthcare Bluebook, Healthways, and Onlife. She also worked as a clinical dietitian in a long-term care facility. Sarah Joy has served on the boards of Leadership Health Care and All About Women.

Sarah Joy has her MBA with a Certificate in Sustainability from Lipscomb University.  She completed her undergraduate studies in nutrition at Middle Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Sarah Joy and Randy and their dog, BJ, live in a serene and private setting about 45 minutes south of Unity. We dream of someday building a retreat center on our land.

Trina Desoto

My spiritual journey brought me first to Unity of Houston, Texas – my hometown. When my career as a financial advisor took me to South Florida, I again found Unity in Delray. At Unity of Delray I served as an usher/greeter, attended Prosperity Coffee and participated in many classes. Applying the spiritual principles to my life is life changing and very enriching.

I have lived in Clarksville, TN for 18 years and most of that time I have attended Unity of Nashville. A little over a year ago I became a member and a chaplain. Being a chaplain has brought me much joy. I have created great friendships and feel like I am giving back to the church.

Outside of Unity I have studied neuro linguistic programming; conversational hypnosis and I practice yoga. I am a board member of ALTRUSA, Sunset Rotary of Clarksville and The Clarksville Networking Group. For over 25 years I have served as a financial advisor. The last five years have been with Edward Jones.

As I serve my clients, I find out what is important to them, apply a strategic plan designed specifically for them and most importantly become a partner to help them stay on track.

Bryan Holmes

I began attending Unity of Nashville in 2011 and joined the church the following year. The message of a “positive spirituality” and the invitation to follow Jesus’ instruction to create the Kingdom of Heaven within, with guidance on Divine Spirit told me I’d found my spiritual home and community.  I have enjoyed serving as a chaplain for the past five years, and have learned greatly from the classes I’ve attended taught by Ms. Wanda Lynch.

My spiritual walk began in the Episcopal church where I served as an acolyte. Later in my late teens, I learned, and have practiced Transcendental Meditation, ever since.  I joined First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi in my 40’s and was re-baptized as an adult.  While teaching an adult ESOL Sunday school class to speakers of English as a second language, I earned a Master of Divinity degree and used that knowledge to pursue becoming a chaplain. After working in a children’s hospital and a retirement facility, I decided I wanted to become a licensed family therapist, which is what I am today.

I consider service to others an important part of my life experience. I have served on the board of Saint John the Divine Episcopal church on Guam, and recently on the board of directors of NVC Nashville.  Previously I served as board chair of the Hawaii chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.

I look forward to serving on your board of directors.   I currently serve as the Treasurer and it is my intention to be a good steward of the resources we are entrusted with on your behalf as your board member.

Hello.  I’m Marcia Lewis. I’ve been attending Unity of Nashville for 5 1/2 years and have been a member for 2 years. I’ve been a student of New Thought for nearly 18 years.

I am an RN by trade and work presently at In Harmony Wellness Center as the clinical director of the heavy metal detox program. I am a Reiki Master/Teacher and practice iridology and nutritional balancing through my business, Health Choice.  I have a doctorate in healtheology and am presently pursuing certification in spiritual counseling.

I have a daughter and 2 grandchildren, 10 and 6, who live in Brentwood. My husband, Jim, and I were married by Joan Kennedy at Unity of Murfreesboro in December, 2011.

At Unity of Nashville, I have served at the welcome desk and at various other functions.  I have been facilitator at the monthly Reiki Sharing Circle for several years and a chaplain for nearly 2 years, being lead chaplain for the last year.

It will be an honor and privilege to serve on your board. I look forward to being close to the pulse of Unity as an encourager and enabler. I have a vision for Unity, expanding and uplifting our community with inclusivity, Christ consciousness, freedom and gratitude.  We are a shining star, illuminating the way for truth seekers.
